Clearance in Stourbridge.

Bigger houses, longer gardens and more outbuildings than the rest of the patch — which is why Stourbridge produces more full house clearances than anywhere else we work, and why nobody ever estimates one correctly.

Stourbridge sits at the affluent end of the borough and the property shows it. Victorian and Edwardian villas near the centre, substantial inter-war semis through Wollaston and Norton, and newer housing out towards Wordsley. Gardens are longer, garages are fuller, and almost everything has a loft that has not been emptied in a generation.

What we get called for here

Full house clearances

The dominant job. Often probate, often a downsizing move, often a sale that cannot complete until the place is empty. These are multi-room clearances including loft, garage and garden, and we work through them room by room, setting aside anything personal or potentially valuable for you to look at first.

Garden clearances

Long gardens mean a lot of green waste, and a lot of structures — sheds, greenhouses, old pergolas, decking that has gone soft. Glass and cement-fibre roofing both need handling properly, so we ask what is out there before quoting.

Garage and outbuilding clear-outs

Stourbridge garages tend not to contain cars. They contain three decades of postponed decisions, which is a larger volume than the owner remembers and usually includes paint tins, old chemicals and a freezer nobody has opened.

Access around the town

The centre and the streets near the old glass quarter are tight — narrow, parked both sides, and awkward for a large vehicle. Amblecote is similar in places. Out through Wollaston, Norton and Pedmore it opens up and most properties have a driveway, which makes the job straightforward even when the volume is large.

Wordsley and the newer estates are the easiest access in the DY area.

A note on estimating

More than anywhere else we work, Stourbridge clearances turn out bigger than described. It is not anyone's fault — you stop seeing the loft, and the garage has looked like that for years. For a full property we would rather come and look than quote from photographs, because a quote that doubles on the day helps nobody.

Stourbridge questions

Why do Stourbridge clearances usually cost more than Dudley ones?

Volume, not postcode. The housing here is bigger — more bedrooms, longer gardens, more outbuildings and far more loft. A three-bed semi in Wollaston with a garage, a shed and a full loft is genuinely twice the job of a two-up two-down in Netherton, and the quote reflects that rather than the address.

Can you get down the older lanes near the town centre?

Mostly. Some of the streets around the old glass quarter and up towards Amblecote are narrow with parking both sides. We check the street before the day and bring a smaller vehicle where a Luton would block the road.

Do you clear properties for estate agents before a sale?

Regularly in this area. Stourbridge has a lot of older owners downsizing and a lot of probate sales, and an empty swept house shows far better than a full one. We can work to a marketing deadline.

What about greenhouses and old glass?

Common here given the gardens, and we take them — with containment, because loose broken glass in a general load is dangerous for everyone handling it afterwards. Tell us in advance so we come prepared.

Clearing a property in Stourbridge?

For a full house we will come and look rather than quoting blind. It takes half an hour and the figure holds.
