Clearance questions, answered
Do we have to carry it out to the van?
No. That is the difference between us and a skip. We come in, load it from wherever it is — the back bedroom, the loft hatch, the bottom of the garden — and sweep up after ourselves. You point, we lift.
How do you work out what it costs?
Volume first: how much space it takes in the van. Then what it is, because some materials cost more to dispose of than others, and then access — a third-floor flat with no lift is more work than a driveway. Send photos and we will put a figure in writing before anyone turns up.
What happens to it afterwards?
It gets sorted rather than tipped in one go. Metal, wood, cardboard, green waste and electricals are separated and go for recycling where they can; what genuinely cannot be recycled goes to a licensed facility. We can give you a waste transfer note for the load.
Do you take asbestos?
No — and be wary of anyone in this trade who says yes casually. Asbestos removal and disposal need a separate licence and specific procedures. If you think you have found some, leave it alone and speak to a licensed asbestos contractor. We will happily clear everything around it once it has been dealt with.
Is a van better than a skip?
For most household clearances, yes. No permit for a skip on the road, no waiting for it to be delivered and collected, nothing sitting outside your house for a week collecting your neighbours' rubbish, and you do not do any of the lifting. For a long building project where waste accumulates daily, a skip still makes sense.
What will you not take?
Asbestos, clinical or offensive waste, chemicals and solvents, gas bottles, tyres in quantity, and anything hazardous. Those need specialist carriers and separate paperwork. Ask us anyway — we would rather point you at the right firm than leave you stuck.
Do you clear whole houses?
Regularly, and often in difficult circumstances — a probate clearance, a relative going into care, a landlord taking back a property that has been left in a state. We work through room by room, set aside anything that looks like it matters so you can check before it goes, and leave the place empty and swept.
Can you come at short notice?
Often, particularly for smaller loads. End-of-tenancy work tends to be urgent by its nature and we keep some capacity for it. Get in touch and we will tell you honestly what we can do rather than promising a slot we do not have.
Do you do garden clearances with green waste?
Yes — hedge cuttings, brambles, turf, old decking, greenhouse glass, the shed that finally gave up. Green waste is separated and composted where possible. Soil and rubble are heavier and priced differently from light garden waste, so mention if there is a lot of either.
Can you take a sofa or a mattress on its own?
Yes, single-item collections are a big part of what we do. Both are awkward to shift and neither fits in a car. Mattresses in particular have to be handled separately at the disposal end, which is why the council makes a fuss about them.
What about fridges and freezers?
We take them. White goods with a cooling circuit are classed as hazardous because of the gases and have to go through a proper WEEE route rather than a general skip — that is handled for you, it just means they are not lumped in with the rest of the load.
Do you clear builders' waste?
Yes. Plasterboard, timber, broken tiles, old kitchen units, rubble and offcuts. Plasterboard has to be separated from general waste by law, so keep it in its own pile if you can — it saves us time and it keeps the cost down.
Do you work for landlords and letting agents?
A lot. End-of-tenancy clearances, void properties, and the ones where a tenant has left more behind than they took. We can work to a deadline for a re-let and provide the paperwork for your records.
Do you do commercial and office work?
Yes — office strip-outs, old desks and chairs, shop fit-out waste, and regular trade waste collections for small businesses around Dudley. Commercial waste has a duty of care attached, so documentation matters more and we provide it.
Are you insured?
We carry liability cover for working in your property. If something is damaged while we are clearing, tell us there and then rather than afterwards, and the details of cover and the claims process are set out in the booking terms.
