Garden clearance across Dudley.
Gardens get away from people. A season of not quite getting round to it turns into brambles through the fence and a shed you no longer trust to stand up. We clear the lot and compost what can be composted.
Garden work has its own rhythm round here. Spring brings the people who looked out of the window and finally admitted it. Autumn brings the hedge cuttings and the leaves. And all year round there are the properties being sold where a jungle out the back is costing viewings.

Heavy versus bulky
This is the thing that trips people up on a garden quote. Light material — cuttings, brambles, plastic furniture — takes a lot of van space and weighs very little. Heavy material — soil, rubble, slabs, wet turf — takes far less space and weighs a great deal, and the disposal site charges by weight.
So "it is only a small pile" can be a bigger job than a van stacked to the roof with hedge trimmings. If your clearance has a lot of soil or hardcore in it, say so when you enquire and we will bring the right vehicle rather than turning up underprepared.
Sheds and the asbestos question
Worth raising because it comes up constantly in older Black Country gardens. Corrugated cement-fibre roof sheets on sheds and garages built before the 2000s can contain asbestos. Intact, it is not a hazard. Broken up with a hammer, it is.
If we see one we will stop and tell you. We do not remove asbestos — that needs a licensed contractor — and we would rather lose the job than break up a sheet and pretend we did not notice. Once it has been dealt with properly we will clear everything around it.
Access
Most Dudley terraces have a rear entry, and that is nearly always the better route. Where the only way out is through the house, we board the floors and sheet the route before carrying anything. Long gardens on the Stourbridge and Norton side just mean more walking, which shows up as time rather than as a problem.

Garden clearance questions
Is soil and rubble priced the same as cuttings?
No, and it is worth saying up front. A cubic metre of brambles weighs almost nothing; a cubic metre of soil weighs a great deal, and disposal is charged by weight at that end. If your clearance is mostly heavy material, tell us — it changes the vehicle as well as the figure.
Can you take a shed down?
Yes. Timber sheds come apart and go on the van. Anything with a cement-fibre roof sheet needs care — older ones can contain asbestos, and if there is any doubt we will stop and tell you to get it checked rather than break it up.
Do you clear greenhouse glass?
We do, but tell us beforehand so we bring the right protection and containment. Loose broken glass mixed into a general load is how people get hurt.
Will you need access through the house?
We would rather not, and in most Dudley terraces we do not have to — the rear entry does the job. Where the only route is through the house we board the floor and carry in sheeting.
What happens to the green waste?
Separated from the rest of the load and sent for composting where the material allows. Mixed loads where green waste is contaminated with plastic or treated timber cannot be composted, which is another reason we sort rather than tip.
